Kentucky Selects First 26 Medical Marijuana Businesses
The Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis has announced the selection of the first 26 businesses to receive licenses for medical marijuana cultivation and processing. The businesses were chosen through a lottery system, with nearly 5,000 submissions received for the licenses.
The selected businesses will operate in 14 different counties across the state. Four of the businesses are located in the Louisville area, including Synapse Remedies LLC, which will cultivate marijuana in Jefferson County, and KYP LLC, which will process the raw plant material into medical marijuana products.
The other two businesses in the Louisville area are Elevated Essence LLC, which will cultivate marijuana in Bullitt County, and One Leaf Technologies, which will process the raw plant material in Bullitt County.
The state aims to launch its medical marijuana program on January 1, 2025, but dispensary inspections may delay the start date. The lottery for medical marijuana dispensaries is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
The selected businesses will be responsible for growing marijuana in enclosed, locked facilities and selling it to processors, who will then develop the raw plant material into medical marijuana products. The state’s medical marijuana program is expected to provide relief to patients suffering from a range of medical conditions.
