Florida Voters Reject Recreational Marijuana Amendment
Despite receiving over 55% “yes” votes, Amendment 3, which aimed to legalize recreational marijuana for adult use in Florida, failed to pass due to not reaching the 60% supermajority threshold required. The amendment received 5,934,139 “yes” votes, while 4,685,443 voters opposed it.
However, medical marijuana patients in Florida can still access low-level THC products through dispensaries and smoke shops. Additionally, delta-8 and delta-9 THC products, often referred to as “diet weed,” are legal in the state for those 21 and older, without the need for a medical marijuana license.
Delta-8 and delta-9 THC products have milder psychoactive effects compared to traditional marijuana. Delta-8 products are typically manufactured from hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD), while delta-9 products are more closely regulated and can be consumed in their plant form without extraction.
It’s important to note that smoking marijuana in public is still illegal in Florida, regardless of medical marijuana status. Those looking to access THC products must be aware of the differences between delta-8 and delta-9 products, as well as the regulations surrounding their sale and use.
