Over 340 Pounds of Marijuana Bound for UK Seized in Pennsylvania

In a significant drug bust, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents seized more than 340 pounds of marijuana destined for the United Kingdom from a shipping facility in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The illegal shipment, valued at $1.5 million on the street, was intercepted in two separate seizures.

On November 7, CBP agents discovered 25 containers of marijuana weighing 132 pounds and 4 ounces. Just days later, on November 10, they seized 52 more containers of marijuana weighing 210 pounds and 12 ounces, as well as 2 pounds and 5 ounces of hashish.

Despite recreational marijuana being legal in 24 states, it remains illegal under federal law, which prohibits transporting marijuana across state lines or exporting it out of the country. This seizure comes on the heels of a previous bust on November 1, where federal agents confiscated 170 pounds of marijuana headed to the UK from California.

CBP’s Area Port Director for the Area Port of Philadelphia, Cleatus Hunt, emphasized the agency’s efforts to combat the illegal export of marijuana, stating that the global marketplace poses significant threats to public health and safety. Hunt noted that consumers can easily access illegal products, often at a lower cost, which can lead to serious consequences.

The seizure is a reminder of the ongoing struggle to combat drug trafficking and the importance of enforcing federal laws regarding marijuana.
