A Couple in Cuba, New York, Faces Up to 40 Years in Prison and $5 Million Fine for Large-Scale Marijuana Distribution

Daniel S. Ackerman, 58, and Ana L. Maldonado-Delgado, 31, of Cuba, have been charged in a federal criminal complaint with manufacturing and possessing marijuana with intent to distribute. The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, a maximum of 40 years, and a fine of up to $5 million.

The investigation, led by the Cuba Police Department, began after authorities became aware of a large-scale marijuana cultivation operation at the couple’s residence on Farnsworth Road. On October 10, law enforcement executed a search warrant and found evidence of a significant marijuana-growing operation. The search yielded 475 growing marijuana plants, 124 dried marijuana plants, a large quantity of processed marijuana, and other drug-related items.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, Cuba Police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, the Olean Police Department, and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Ackerman and Maldonado-Delgado could face severe penalties if convicted, including up to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $5 million. The case is a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in large-scale drug trafficking.
