Eight Individuals Indicted for Massive Indoor Marijuana Growing Operation in Georgia
A massive indoor marijuana growing operation has been uncovered in southern Georgia, resulting in the indictment of eight suspects. According to the Southern District of Georgia U.S. Attorney’s Office, investigators discovered two large-scale indoor growing facilities on two tracts of land in Pierce and Brantley Counties.
The suspects were charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute over 1,000 marijuana plants, as well as possession with intent to distribute. These charges carry a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, up to life, and fines of up to $10 million.
In addition to the drug-related charges, four of the suspects were also charged with possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Two of the suspects are believed to have left the country, while the remaining six made their first court appearances and await further proceedings.
The investigation alleges that the suspects were involved in a clandestine operation that was hidden in plain sight. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has vowed to hold the suspects accountable for their alleged crimes.
