A New York Man Arrested in Mississippi for Trafficking Marijuana
On January 8, 2025, the Hattiesburg Police Traffic Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on I-59 for a moving violation. During the stop, a K-9 unit named Dino was deployed to search the vehicle. The dog indicated the presence of narcotics, leading officers to conduct a further search. This search resulted in the discovery of 126 pounds of marijuana and $13,700 in cash.
The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Jieyuan Chen from Brooklyn, New York, was arrested without incident and charged with one count of trafficking controlled substances. Chen was taken into custody and booked into Forrest County Jail, with a bond set at $40,000.
The arrest was made possible through the combined efforts of the Hattiesburg Police Department and the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and keep communities safe.
