In a significant drug trafficking operation, Arkansas State Police (ASP) arrested two individuals on February 20 after a routine traffic stop in Crawford County led to the discovery of a massive amount of illegal marijuana.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm when troopers stopped a tractor-trailer traveling east on I-40 for a traffic violation. During the search of the trailer, authorities found 1,705 pounds of marijuana hidden in 42 boxes and a duffel bag.
The two suspects, 48-year-old Dawit Asefa of Silver Spring, Maryland, and 39-year-old Ashenafi Mamo of Stone Mountain, Georgia, were taken into custody and transported to the Crawford County Detention Center. They are now facing charges of trafficking a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
