Texas Survey Reveals Complex Marijuana Landscape: Support for Ban Varies by Use

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick recently shared a post on social media claiming that a majority of Texans support a ban on the unregulated sale of THC consumables. The claim is based on a new survey released by the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs. The survey found that 55% of Texans surveyed support a ban on the sale of all forms of consumable THC in the state.

However, the survey also revealed that Texans’ opinions on marijuana vary depending on its intended use. While 79% of respondents support the use of medical marijuana, only 62% support the legalization of recreational marijuana. This suggests that while many Texans may support a ban on recreational marijuana, they also believe that patients should have access to medical marijuana.

The survey’s findings may be surprising to some, as the lieutenant governor’s post received over 12,000 views. However, the results highlight the complexity of the issue and the need for a nuanced discussion about marijuana policy in Texas. As the state continues to grapple with the issue, it is clear that public opinion is divided and that a one-size-fits-all approach may not be the most effective solution.
