Majority of Marijuana Consumers Trust Products from Licensed Retailers, But Quality Control Concerns Remain

New Poll Finds Majority of Marijuana Consumers Trust Products from Licensed Retailers

A recent survey conducted by the cannabis telehealth platform NuggMD has found that nearly three-quarters of marijuana consumers in legal states trust that the products they purchase from licensed retailers are free of contaminants. The poll, which interviewed 474 respondents, found that 73% of respondents expressed either “high” or “moderate” trust in the quality controls of licensed retailers.

The results suggest that consumers are increasingly aware of the benefits of buying marijuana from licensed retailers, which are subject to stricter quality control measures and testing requirements than the illicit market. This trend is a positive sign for advocates and industry stakeholders, who have long argued that regulating and legalizing cannabis is a safer and more effective way to ensure the quality and safety of marijuana products.

However, the poll also highlights the need for continued improvement in the quality control measures of licensed retailers. According to Andrew Graham, head of communications at NuggMD, “the regulated markets don’t uniformly provide product that’s clean, safe, and free of contaminants.” Graham attributed this issue to federal prohibition, which he believes is hindering the development of uniform federal guidelines for state-legal cannabis markets.

The poll also found that 18% of respondents had “low” trust in the quality controls of licensed retailers, while 9% had no trust at all. This suggests that there is still work to be done to educate consumers about the benefits of buying from licensed retailers and to improve the quality control measures of these retailers.

Separately, the poll found that 66% of marijuana consumers are spending less money on cannabis due to broader inflation in the economy. This is a departure from earlier polls, which found that many consumers were spending more on cannabis. The results of this poll suggest that the economic downturn is having a significant impact on the cannabis industry.

Overall, the poll provides a mixed bag of results for the cannabis industry. While it suggests that consumers are increasingly aware of the benefits of buying from licensed retailers, it also highlights the need for continued improvement in quality control measures and the impact of broader economic trends on the industry.
