Texas Becomes First State for THC Delivery as Hemp Ban Advances
Edibles.com, the parent company of Edible Arrangements, has launched a new THC delivery service in Texas, marking the first state to do so. This move comes as lawmakers in the state are considering a bill to ban hemp-derived THC products. The company’s CEO, Somia Farid Silber, stated that the hemp industry is evolving rapidly, but consumers still face challenges with perception, education, and accessibility.
The new service, Edibles.com, will deliver THC products across the state, but the legality of these products is uncertain. A bill to ban products containing any form of THC, including those derived from hemp, has passed the state Senate and is heading to the House. The ban was a priority of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who argued that the current laws are being abused.
Law enforcement officials have found retailers selling THC products with high concentrations, exceeding 78% THC. Edibles.com did not comment on the legislation, but stated that it plans to expand into legal markets across the Southeast and offer nationwide shipping where permitted.
Local businesses, such as Endo Dispensary and Wellness, are concerned about the potential ban. Owner Mike Brown fears that customers who have chosen to shop with him for pain management and treatment of diseases will be forced into the black market if the ban passes. Brown is urging lawmakers to take a more moderate approach, advocating for regulation and oversight rather than a full ban.
The Texas House is expected to take up its own hemp legislation, which calls for more oversight rather than a full ban. The fate of the hemp industry in Texas remains uncertain, with both sides of the debate presenting strong arguments.
