Nebraska Lawmakers to Host Public Forums on Medical Marijuana

Following a resounding 70% voter approval in the November general election, Nebraska lawmakers are now set to hold public forums to discuss the implementation of medical marijuana in the state. Three state senators, Rick Holdcroft, John Cavanaugh, and Ben Hansen, will lead the discussions in three separate meetings across the state.

The public forums, scheduled for May 3-5, will provide an opportunity for Nebraskans to receive updates on the medical marijuana legislation and share their thoughts on the matter. The meetings are open to everyone and will be limited to two hours.

The first meeting will take place on Saturday, May 3, at Carpenter’s Union Hall in La Vista, followed by a second meeting on Sunday, May 4, at the UNO Thompson Center in Omaha. The final meeting will be held on Monday, May 5, at Southeast Community College in Lincoln.

Twelve additional state lawmakers will participate in the forums, representing various districts across the state. Despite the overwhelming public support for medical marijuana, the issue has faced opposition from some high-ranking officials, including Governor Jim Pillen, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts, and Attorney General Mike Hilgers.

The public forums aim to provide a platform for Nebraskans to engage with lawmakers and express their opinions on the matter. The meetings are expected to be a crucial step in the process of implementing medical marijuana in the state.
