Delaware Set to Launch Recreational Marijuana Sales on August 1
For the first time in Delaware’s history, recreational marijuana will be legally available for purchase starting August 1. State Marijuana Commissioner Joshua Sanderlin has been working to establish the industry, with a focus on converting existing medical dispensaries to recreational ones. This approach allows stores to continue operating their medical supplies, as required by state law.
Most medical marijuana stores in Delaware have chosen to convert, with some paying a significant upfront cost of over $200,000. Sanderlin praised the efforts of the regulatory team and partners in the industry, saying the launch of recreational sales reflects their tireless work.
However, not all medical dispensaries are converting to recreational. Best Buds, a planned recreational store in Wilmington, was recently issued a cease and desist by the city. The Fresh Cannabis medical dispensaries in Seaford and Milford will remain medical-only due to townwide bans on recreational sales.
The following stores will be selling recreational marijuana in each county:
New Castle County:
