Delaware Set to Launch Recreational Marijuana Sales This Summer
The state of Delaware is poised to make history this summer by becoming the latest to legalize adult-use marijuana sales. The Office of the Marijuana Commissioner (OMC) has announced that it will begin recreational sales for all medical marijuana conversion licensees on August 1, 2025.
The OMC was established in 2023 through legislation passed by the state government. The agency has been working tirelessly to develop regulations for the recreational marijuana market, which were first proposed in May 2024 and finalized in September of the same year.
Delaware previously held an open retail licensing lottery, which resulted in 125 successful applicants. The state’s governor, Matt Meyer, praised the launch of the recreational marijuana market, saying it will generate critical revenue for the state and create opportunities for entrepreneurs.
The OMC’s new Marijuana Commissioner, Joshua Sanderlin, emphasized the agency’s focus on building a safe, equitable, and accountable marijuana market that delivers real benefits to Delawareans. The agency will continue to issue conditional licenses to previously selected applicants to ensure they can begin operations once active.
The launch of the recreational marijuana market in Delaware is a significant milestone in the state’s cannabis legalization efforts. It is expected to bring in significant revenue for the state and create new economic opportunities for residents.
