Maine Cannabis Company Owner Accused of Illegally Growing and Selling Marijuana
Daniel P. Safranec, the 40-year-old owner of Simple Twist Cannabis Company in Madison, Maine, has been arrested and charged with multiple drug-related offenses. According to authorities, Safranec was accused of illegally growing and selling marijuana, resulting in the seizure of over 2,100 pounds of processed marijuana, 159 flowering plants, and a large quantity of marijuana-infused products.
On Wednesday, members of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office executed two drug search warrants at Safranec’s home and his cannabis company. The warrants were executed simultaneously, with officers seizing a significant amount of evidence, including records.
Safranec’s charges include aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and aggravated cultivation of marijuana. His prior federal felony drug conviction, which was related to marijuana cultivation, has increased the severity of his charges. Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster expressed surprise that the state of Maine would license an individual with a federal felony conviction to sell marijuana.
Safranec was released from the Somerset County Jail after posting $10,000 bail. As part of his bail conditions, he is prohibited from using or possessing marijuana or marijuana products and is not allowed to distribute them. His initial court appearance is scheduled for November 5.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional criminal charges may be brought against Safranec once the case is reviewed by the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office.
