Massachusetts Takes Step Towards Legalizing Social Marijuana Use
The Massachusetts government has taken a significant step towards legalizing social marijuana use by publishing proposed regulations for cannabis consumption in various settings. The state has begun accepting public comments on the new rules, which aim to establish a framework for social cannabis use in different types of businesses and events.
Under the proposed regulations, three types of licenses will be issued for social cannabis consumption. The first type, supplemental licenses, will allow dispensaries and other cannabis businesses to offer on-site consumption areas. The second type, hospitality licenses, will be issued to non-cannabis businesses, such as yoga studios and theaters, to allow them to host cannabis consumption events. The third type, event organizer licenses, will permit temporary events like rallies and festivals to feature social cannabis use.
According to estimates from the Secretary of State’s Office, around 400 small businesses will be affected by the new regulations. However, these businesses will not need to hire additional employees to comply with the proposed rules, as the regulations are designed to be flexible and accommodating.
