Warren-based Cannabis Company Recalls Vape Products Due to Unauthorized Oil

A Michigan-based cannabis company, Sky Cannabis LLC, has issued a voluntary recall of several vape products due to the presence of Medium Chain Triglyceride (MCT) oil, which is not approved for use in cannabis products. The recall affects vape flavors sold after November 1, 2024, and includes Motor City Cannacarts – Georgia Pie, Motor City Cannacarts – Confetti Cake, RIPZ – Peach Cobbler, RIPZ – Wedding Cake, RIPZ – Ice Cream Man, and RIPZ – Tropic Thunder.

MCT oil is a type of fat molecule derived from coconut and palm kernel oils, often used as a dietary supplement for individuals with fat intolerance. While some research suggests it can be a good energy source, the National Institute of Health has recommended further studies on its effects on cannabis products.

Customers who have purchased affected products can either return them to the point of sale or dispose of them. The Michigan cannabis regulator issued a public health and safety advisory on Tuesday, citing the voluntary recall and studies from the National Institute of Health.

It is essential for cannabis consumers to be aware of the ingredients used in their products, as unauthorized additives can pose health risks. Sky Cannabis LLC’s recall serves as a reminder of the importance of product safety and transparency in the cannabis industry.
