Minnesota’s Recreational Cannabis Shops Finally Open for Business After Supply Challenges

Minnesota’s First Non-Tribal Cannabis Shops Open After Supply Challenges

After a two-year wait, recreational cannabis is now available at non-tribal shops in Minnesota. Legacy Cannabis in Duluth was the first to open its doors on Tuesday, followed by locations in the Twin Cities metro on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The delay was due to supply challenges, which left many shops with no product to sell. The issue arose because Minnesota shops can only sell cannabis grown in the state, and cultivator licenses were issued at the same time as retail licenses. However, a recent compact allowed shops to obtain products from tribal lands, and the state issued licenses to two medical cannabis dispensaries, enabling them to sell recreational products.

Legacy Cannabis, located on West Superior Street, will sell cannabis flower grown by the White Earth Nation. Green Goods, a medical cannabis dispensary, started offering recreational products at all eight of its shops on Tuesday, including five in the metro. RISE Cannabis is also opening five recreational dispensaries, including three in the metro, one in Willmar, and another in Mankato.

The long-awaited opening of non-tribal cannabis shops marks a significant milestone in Minnesota’s cannabis industry. With the supply chain now in place, customers can finally access a wide range of cannabis products.
