Hanover County Authorities Seize Over $100,000 in Cash and 20 Pounds of Marijuana from Vape Shops
A recent investigation by the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) led to the seizure of over $100,000 in cash and 20 pounds of marijuana from several vape shops in the county. The investigation, which began earlier this summer, targeted the illegal sale of marijuana at local vape shops.
The HCSO conducted underage buyer compliance checks at the majority of vape stores in the county, with 11 stores selling to minors. The agency used multiple investigative techniques to establish probable cause, leading to the issuance of search warrants for various locations in Hanover and Henrico counties.
On August 27, deputies, along with partners from the Henrico Division of Police, Virginia State Police, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, executed search warrants at eight locations. Six of the stores were located in Hanover County, while two were in Henrico County. The shops were connected to “3 Stars Vape and Tobacco” and “Habibi Vape and Tobacco.”
As a result of the search warrants, authorities seized over 20 pounds of marijuana, over $100,000 in U.S. currency, and paraphernalia associated with the distribution of marijuana. Five individuals have been charged with felony distribution of marijuana and felony distribution of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school zone.
The HCSO’s investigation also led to the discovery of multiple violations of underage buyer compliance checks. In response to community concerns, the Hanover County Board of Supervisors recently voted to amend an ordinance that will apply tighter restrictions on new vape shops entering the county. The new regulations include restrictions on new businesses within a mile of any public or private school’s property line, limited business hours, and new lighting regulations.
