Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen Approves Regulations on Medical Marijuana Production

In a move to prevent an unregulated and unintended black market, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has signed new emergency regulations limiting the production of medical cannabis in the state. The regulations, which were adopted by the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission earlier this week, set a cap of 1,250 flowering plants per cultivator.

The decision comes after the commission held an emergency meeting to discuss the limits, which were requested by Pillen to ensure that the production of cannabis does not exceed the demand and lead to an unregulated market. The commission had initially adopted a 19-page document outlining the regulations for the state’s medical marijuana system in June.

Under the new regulations, patients and caregivers are allowed to possess no more than 5 ounces of cannabis, while certain products such as oral tablets and suppositories can be sold at dispensaries. The regulations aim to provide a safe and controlled environment for the production and distribution of medical cannabis in Nebraska.
