A former firefighter in Waterbury, Connecticut, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of harassment and threatening behavior after a heated outburst in which he allegedly threatened to shoot local officials, including the mayor and police chief. Thomas Eccleston, who was fired from his job due to a dispute over his use of medical marijuana, appeared in court on Wednesday and was held on a $400,000 bond.
According to reports, Eccleston’s rant included a reference to Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator, and threats of political violence against officials. Prosecutors described the threats as “completely unacceptable” and targeted at Mayor Paul Pernerewski, Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo, and other members of the Waterbury police and fire departments, as well as City Hall staff.
Eccleston’s outburst was met with swift action from authorities, who moved quickly to apprehend him and bring him to justice. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of respecting the rule of law and the safety of public officials, who work tirelessly to serve their communities.
