Colorado’s Marijuana Industry Generates Record-Breaking Revenue in 2025

The Colorado Department of Revenue has released the latest figures on marijuana sales and tax revenue, revealing that the industry generated a whopping $236.4 million in tax and fee revenue in 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the state, as cumulative tax revenue since January 2014 has now surpassed $3.1 billion.

According to the report, December 2025 saw a total of $18.4 million in tax revenue, while November generated $103.3 million. Since January 2014, a total of $18.1 billion in sales has been generated, with Pitkin County reporting $7.9 million in retail marijuana sales over the past 11 months.

The revenue comes from a combination of state sales tax, retail marijuana sales tax, and retail marijuana excise tax on wholesale sales and transfers of retail marijuana. Additionally, marijuana license and application fees contribute to the fee revenue.

The Colorado Department of Revenue publishes the Marijuana Sales Reports and Marijuana Tax Reports on its website, providing a detailed breakdown of total sales and tax revenue by county. The reports also show how much marijuana tax revenue has been allocated to public schools.
