Ice-T’s New Jersey Marijuana Dispensary Closes After Just Eight Months

Ice-T’s Co-Owned Marijuana Dispensary in New Jersey Closes After Eight Months

The Medicine Woman, a marijuana dispensary co-owned by rapper and actor Ice-T, has closed its Jersey City location after just eight months in business. The exact date of the closure is unknown, but an employee confirmed the news without providing a reason for the shutdown.

The dispensary, which officially opened on April 19, 2025, was a joint venture between Ice-T and founder Charis Burrett. The two were present at the grand opening, with Burrett expressing high hopes for the location’s success. Despite this, the Jersey City store has already ceased operations.

In contrast, The Medicine Woman’s flagship location in Bellflower, California, which has been in operation since 2019, remains open. The closure of the Jersey City location is not unprecedented in the competitive New Jersey marijuana industry, which has seen several businesses struggle to stay afloat. Hashstoria, a Newark-based dispensary co-owned by Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon, has also reportedly closed its doors.

The New Jersey marijuana industry has experienced rapid growth since Governor Phil Murphy signed legalization bills into law in 2021. Today, the state is home to several dispensaries, including Hashery in Hackensack, Ascend in Rochelle Park and Fort Lee, and Sweetspot Dispensary in River Edge. However, the industry’s competitiveness has led to a number of closures, making the Medicine Woman’s shutdown just the latest example.
