Kentucky Medical Cannabis Licensing Process Cleared of Allegations

Kentucky’s Office of Medical Cannabis Clears Licensing Process of Allegations

A year after the Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) requested an independent investigation, the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet’s Office of the Inspector General (FAC OIG) has released its report on the state’s medical cannabis licensing and application process. The audit was prompted by public concerns and allegations of unfair business practices.

According to the report, the OMC’s regulations and licensing processes were designed to prioritize fairness and transparency, and the investigation found that these goals were successfully met. The report praises the office for issuing regulations in a transparent manner, which underwent public comment and review by multiple legislative committees before taking effect.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear commended the OMC for its efforts, stating that the program was designed to be fair and transparent to all applicants. The report concludes that the office created an effective program that was free from bias and manipulation.

The state legalized medical cannabis just over a year ago, and officials are now working to get the program up and running. The report’s findings are expected to provide a sense of relief to those involved in the industry, as well as the general public, who may have had concerns about the fairness of the licensing process.
