Idaho Medical Cannabis Legalization Initiative Falls Short of Ballot Qualification

Medical Cannabis Legalization Initiative Falls Short in Idaho

A proposal to put medical cannabis legalization on the November ballot in Idaho has failed to gather enough signatures to make the cut. According to the Secretary of State’s Office, the initiative did not meet the necessary requirements to appear on the ballot. To qualify, initiatives must collect signatures from at least 6% of registered voters, which translates to over 70,000 signatures, and also secure at least 6% of signatures from 18 of Idaho’s 35 legislative districts.

The Secretary of State’s Office announced the initiative’s failure in a recent news release, citing that it did not submit the required number of valid petition signatures, both in total number and in terms of legislative districts. As a result, Idaho voters will not have the opportunity to weigh in on the issue of medical cannabis legalization this year.
