High Times Cannabis Cup Makes Its Debut in Latin America
The iconic High Times Cannabis Cup is coming to Latin America for the first time, with events scheduled in Argentina and Puerto Rico. The Cup, which started in Amsterdam in 1988, has been held in various locations around the world, including the Netherlands and the United States.
The first event will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 23, and will be produced and operated locally by Universal Growing S.A. under license from High Times. The event will feature five categories: indoor flower, outdoor flower, solventless rosin, BHO, and hash holes. Only growers with an active REPROCANN registration can participate, and each sample must come from registered cultivation.
Judging will take place in two layers, with judges evaluating appearance, structure, and aroma using optical instruments, and a lab running tests on the samples to determine their cannabinoid and terpene profiles. The judging panel will be announced shortly, and the winners will receive trophies and have their products featured in the next U.S. print edition of High Times.
The awards night will also mark the launch of High Times en Español, the first print edition of the magazine created in Spanish in its 52-year history. Argentine rapper Duki will share the cover with his cultivator, Mau Lamónica.
The second event will take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico on December 5, and will be produced locally by CannaID Medical Center under license from High Times. The event will feature ten product categories, including flower, concentrates, vapes, edibles, and wellness products. The Cannabiz Awards, Puerto Rico’s own industry awards, will also be held during the event.
The judging panel for the Puerto Rico event will include 13 industry experts, including cultivator and breeder Kyle Kushman, pharmaceutical scientist Riley Kirk, and neuroscientist Garrett Seale. The winners will receive trophies and have their products featured in the next U.S. print edition of High Times.
Both events are medical-only markets, and attendees must be 21 years old or older with a government-issued photo ID. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, and entries can be submitted through the High Times website. A share of the proceeds from both events will go to addiction prevention and education, and another share will go to scientific research.
