Delaware’s Marijuana License Lottery Kicks Off Today
The Delaware Office of the Marijuana Commissioner is hosting a live lottery on Facebook today to award the first licenses for marijuana manufacturing and cultivation in the state. The lottery will take place at 9 a.m. and will be streamed on the Office’s Facebook page.
A total of 727 applications were submitted for the lottery, out of which 13 medical marijuana dispensaries were granted licenses. The remaining licenses will be awarded to successful applicants in the lottery. Social equity retail licenses will also be awarded today, but open retail licenses will be held in a separate lottery in December due to high demand.
The lottery will be overseen by witnesses and an auditor to ensure its integrity. Cultivation licenses are expected to be awarded by November 1.
After winning a license, businesses will need to go through additional licensing phases with the state before approaching local governments. Those who do not win the lottery can still save their paid applications for future lotteries.
The lottery is expected to last until around noon today. Residents can watch the event live on the Office of the Marijuana Commissioner’s Facebook page.
