Massachusetts Relaxes Cannabis Delivery Rules, Eases Business Operations
The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission has voted to relax regulations on cannabis delivery businesses, making it easier for companies to operate in the state. One of the key changes is the elimination of a requirement that two people be present in every delivery vehicle, a rule that some industry professionals deemed unnecessary and costly.
Under the new regulation, a single person can make deliveries as long as the value of the cannabis in the vehicle does not exceed $5,000. This change is expected to significantly reduce the costs associated with running a cannabis delivery business, allowing companies to invest in more vehicles and expand their reach.
Devin Alexander, CEO of Rolling Releaf, a cannabis delivery company, welcomed the change, stating that it will enable his business to reduce its payroll by half, allowing them to buy more vehicles and increase their delivery capacity. The new regulations also expand the hours during which deliveries can be made and increase the number of delivery licenses that can be owned by a single person or company.
The changes are set to take effect on November 23rd, and are expected to benefit the cannabis industry in Massachusetts. The relaxation of regulations is seen as an opportunity for entrepreneurs to enter the industry, which was previously seen as challenging due to the high start-up costs associated with other cannabis-related businesses such as dispensaries and grow facilities.
