Ensuring the High-Quality Harvest: The Crucial Role of Marijuana Testing in Ensuring Consumer Safety

As the debate surrounding the legalization of recreational marijuana heats up, proponents of the measure are emphasizing the importance of safety. To better understand the measures in place to ensure the quality and safety of marijuana products, Action News Jax visited Modern Canna Labs, a testing facility that inspects thousands of medical marijuana samples each week.

The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including liquid nitrogen freezers, high-tech computers, and specialized testing equipment. The facility is divided into multiple stations, each designed to detect specific contaminants such as pesticides, mold, and heavy metals.

According to Jini Glaros, Chief Science Officer at Modern Canna Labs, testing is crucial for consumer safety. Not only does it ensure accurate dosing, but it also helps to prevent marijuana plants from absorbing and retaining harmful contaminants.

Glaros explained that even if a grower or producer is not intentionally using pesticides, their products can still be contaminated if they are grown in close proximity to neighboring farms that use these chemicals. This “drift” can result in pesticides ending up on the marijuana plants, posing a risk to consumers.

As the CEO of Modern Canna Labs, George Fernandez is committed to ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in the production and testing of marijuana products. With the legalization of recreational marijuana on the ballot, the importance of safety measures like those in place at Modern Canna Labs cannot be overstated.
