Country Music Star Jamey Johnson Arrested for Marijuana Possession
Singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson, known for his outlaw country style, was arrested on November 17 in Tennessee for allegedly possessing marijuana. According to court documents, Johnson was pulled over by a state trooper for speeding and found to be in possession of several Ziploc bags of marijuana and pre-rolled joints.
Johnson, 49, was charged with violating a Tennessee law that prohibits the possession of marijuana with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell. If convicted, he faces a Class E felony, punishable by one to six years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
The arrest occurred in Williamson County, Tennessee, shortly before 10 pm on Sunday. The trooper alleged that Johnson was driving 87 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone.
Johnson’s arrest comes as a surprise to fans, as he has been open about his struggles with sobriety. In fact, his latest album, “Midnight Gasoline,” features a song called “Sober,” which addresses his efforts to stay away from alcohol. Johnson has been sober since 2011 and has spoken publicly about the challenges of maintaining his sobriety in the country music industry, where drinking is often glorified.
Reps for Johnson have not commented on the arrest. Johnson’s fans are left wondering what this means for his music career and personal life.
