New Hampshire House Majority Leader Jason Osborne has indicated that the state is unlikely to legalize marijuana in the near future. Osborne, a longtime advocate for cannabis legalization, has shifted his stance and now believes the issue has been put on the backburner for the foreseeable future.
Osborne attributed this change in perspective to the lack of support from the current governor, stating that the issue is no longer a priority for her or for him. He also acknowledged that the state has missed an opportunity to pass legalization in the past and is unlikely to revisit the issue in the next decade.
The likelihood of legalization is further diminished by the fact that even if a bill makes it out of the House, it is unlikely to find support in the state Senate. Senate President Sharon Carson has stated that the issue has been tried before and failed, and that the Senate has more pressing concerns to address.
As a result, it appears that New Hampshire residents who are hoping for legalization will have to wait for the foreseeable future.
