Lenawee County to Receive Over $1 Million in Adult-Use Marijuana Funds
The Michigan Department of Treasury has announced that it will be distributing nearly $100 million in adult-use marijuana payments to local entities and tribes across the state. Lenawee County, which has 18 authorized marijuana licenses, is set to receive $1,048,115.88.
The funds are being disbursed from the Marihuana Regulation Fund, which is generated by marijuana revenue collected during the 2024 fiscal year. The payments will be made to 108 cities, 36 villages, 80 townships, 74 counties, and four tribes over the next few days.
According to Michigan State Treasurer Rachael Eubanks, the funds can be used by local entities and tribes to support schools, roads, and other community needs. “The dollars received from the adult-use marijuana taxes and fees go toward schools, roads and back into Michigan’s neighborhoods,” Eubanks said.
The distribution amounts are based on the number of licensed retail stores and microbusinesses located within each jurisdiction. For the 2024 fiscal year, each eligible municipality, county, and tribe will receive more than $58,200 for every licensed retail store and microbusiness.
In addition to the disbursements to local entities, the state will also be sending more than $116 million to the School Aid Fund for kindergarten-12th education and another $116 million to the Michigan Transportation Fund.
Lenawee County’s municipalities, including Addison, Adrian, and Morenci, will also receive revenue sharing dollars from the Marihuana Regulation Fund. Addison will receive $116,457.32, Adrian will receive $640,515.26, and Morenci will receive $291,143.30.
The funds will be used to support various community needs, including good-paying jobs, community involvement, and increased revenues for important priorities in their budgets. “Municipalities, counties and tribes certainly benefit from their local cannabis businesses in many ways, including good-paying jobs, community involvement and increased revenues for important priorities in their budget,” said Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) Executive Director Brian Hanna.
