Florida Gators Cornerback Dijon Johnson Arrested on Gun and Drug Charges
Florida cornerback Dijon Johnson, 21, was arrested on Friday and charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors after a traffic stop in Tampa. According to police, Johnson was driving a gray Dodge Challenger when he failed to stop at a stop signal. Officers detected a strong odor of burned marijuana and reported that Johnson was argumentative during the stop, refusing to exit the vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle, police found 8 grams of synthetic marijuana and a backpack containing marijuana. A loaded Glock 19 handgun was also discovered in the car. Johnson was taken into custody and later booked into jail, where he posted an $8,500 surety bond and was released the following night.
Johnson’s attorney, Tim Taylor, has entered written pleas of not guilty to all charges. The university’s coach, Billy Napier, has issued a statement saying that the program is aware of the situation and will continue to gather facts and cooperate with legal and administrative processes.
Johnson, a junior from Tampa, recorded 27 tackles and two pass breakups during the last season. His arrest has sparked concern among fans and university officials, who will be monitoring the legal and administrative proceedings.
