Dallas Cowboys Star KaVontae Turpin Arrested on Weapon and Marijuana Charges
KaVontae Turpin, the Cowboys’ star returner, was arrested on Sunday morning in Allen, Texas, on charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The 28-year-old was booked after being pulled over for speeding and found to be in possession of a 9MM pistol and less than two ounces of marijuana.
Turpin, who signed a three-year, $18 million deal with the Cowboys in March, had a breakout season in 2024. He earned First Team All-Pro honors and his second Pro Bowl selection after returning 27 kicks for a league-leading 904 yards and one touchdown, as well as 18 punt returns for 187 yards and another touchdown.
Turpin’s arrest is a setback for the player, who has worked to overcome off-field issues in the past. Despite going undrafted in 2019, he has established himself as one of the best players in the league with his receiving ability and return ability. He was named MVP of the USFL in 2022 and earned a contract with the Cowboys after leading the league in receiving yards, yards after catch, and punt return average.
Turpin’s arrest is the latest in a series of off-field issues for the Cowboys, who have struggled to maintain a consistent level of success despite having a talented roster. The team will be monitoring the situation closely and will likely take disciplinary action once the legal process is complete.
