Delaware Set to Launch Recreational Marijuana Sales on August 1
Delaware is poised to become the 19th state in the US to legalize recreational marijuana, with sales set to begin on August 1. The state’s Marijuana Commissioner, Joshua Sanderlin, has been working to establish a regulatory framework for the industry, with a focus on converting existing medical dispensaries to recreational ones.
Most medical marijuana stores in Delaware are converting to recreational, with some paying a significant fee of over $200,000 to do so. The first recreational stores will open in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties, with a total of 14 locations across the state.
The converted stores will still be required to operate their medical supply, according to state law. However, some medical dispensaries have chosen not to convert, citing townwide bans on recreational weed sales. For example, The Fresh Cannabis medical dispensaries in Seaford and Milford will remain medical-only for now.
The first recreational marijuana stores in each county will be:
New Castle County:
* Columbia Care Wilmington
* First State Compassion Wilmington
* Field Supply Cannabis & Provisions
* Fresh Cannabis
* The Farm
Kent County:
* Columbia Care Smyrna
* Best Buds Dover
* The Farm Felton
Sussex County:
* Best Buds Georgetown
* First State Compassion Lewes
* Columbia Care Rehoboth Beach
The launch of recreational marijuana sales in Delaware is a significant milestone for the state, and Commissioner Sanderlin has praised the efforts of his team and stakeholders in making it happen. “The start of legal adult-use marijuana sales reflects the tireless efforts of our regulatory team and our strong partnerships with state agencies, industry stakeholders, and community leaders,” he said.
