Kentucky Medical Marijuana Card Applications Reveal Top Condition
According to recent data, chronic pain is the leading reason people have applied for a medical marijuana card in Kentucky. As of September 15, a total of 20,319 electronic written certifications were submitted by medical cannabis practitioners, with 13,925 patient card applications approved in the portal. Additionally, 90 individuals were approved as caregivers, who assist patients with purchasing and administering medical cannabis.
The data, obtained through an Open Records Request, shows that chronic pain is the most common condition among applicants, followed by post-traumatic stress disorder, cancer, multiple sclerosis, chronic nausea, and seizure disorder.
The discrepancy between the number of written certifications and card applications may be due to multiple certifications being submitted for the same patient, as well as patients who have received certifications but have not yet applied for a card. The Governor’s office has stated that dispensaries are expected to begin operating by the end of the year, pending the completion of cultivator and processor applications.
In a recent update, Governor Andy Beshear expressed optimism about the timeline, saying that everyone involved is working hard to ensure a smooth and efficient process. With medical marijuana now available in Kentucky, patients are seeking relief from a range of conditions, and the state is taking steps to make the process as accessible and convenient as possible.
