Colorado Health Officials Warn of Contaminated Marijuana
A safety notice has been issued by Colorado health officials regarding batches of marijuana contaminated with yeast and mold, sold in 31 stores across the state over the past two-and-a-half months. The affected product is legal marijuana flower produced by Sweetwater Group, LLC, and was sold between November 16th and February 3rd.
The contaminated marijuana was sold in various locations, including the Denver metro area, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Eastern Plains, foothills, Pueblo, and the Western Slope. The full list of affected stores and strains can be found on the Colorado Department of Revenue and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s websites.
According to the health departments, Sweetwater Group initiated a voluntary recall after testing revealed that the total amount of yeast, mold, and/or Aspergillus exceeded the state’s established health guidelines.
Consumers who possess the affected product are advised to destroy it or return it to the store of purchase for proper disposal. Anyone who experiences adverse health effects after consuming the contaminated product should seek immediate medical attention and report the incident to the Marijuana Enforcement Division by submitting a reporting form.
Health officials are urging anyone who may have purchased marijuana from the affected batches to check the labels and containers if they still have them.
