San Diego Cracks Down on Illegal Cannabis Delivery Services

In an effort to level the playing field for legal operators and boost city tax revenue, the city of San Diego is intensifying its efforts to combat illegal cannabis delivery services. While cannabis delivery has become increasingly convenient, not all services are operating within the law.

Bret Peace, CEO of March and Ash, a licensed cannabis company with multiple locations in San Diego County, highlighted the challenges faced by legal businesses. “We’ve had instances where the CHP or sheriff has called us to verify an employee’s identity. However, illegal delivery services instruct their drivers to claim they work for March and Ash if stopped by authorities,” Peace said.

The rapid growth of the cannabis market has led to intense competition among businesses, which must be licensed and taxed. However, the increased tax burden has inadvertently fueled the illicit market, according to Peace.

To address this issue, the city of San Diego is stepping up its efforts to shut down illegal cannabis delivery services and promote fair competition among licensed businesses.
