Alaska’s Pot Industry Blooms in Fairbanks, Surpassing Hay and Barley in Value

Alaska’s Recreational Marijuana Industry: A Fairbanks Perspective

Since its formal launch in 2017, Alaska’s recreational marijuana industry has experienced both highs and lows. Today, it has grown to become the state’s largest agricultural crop, accounting for a significant 72% of all cultivated plants in Alaska. The industry’s value is estimated to be around $138 million, with the majority of this revenue coming from the sale of marijuana flowers.

In comparison, the state’s second-largest crop, hay, is worth approximately $9.8 million, while barley is valued at $1 million. The industry’s growth has been remarkable, and it continues to play a significant role in Alaska’s economy.
