Texas Becomes First State for THC Delivery from Edibles.com Amid Hemp Ban Debate
Edibles.com, the parent company of Edible Arrangements, has launched a new THC delivery service in Texas, marking the first state to offer this type of service. The launch comes as lawmakers in Texas are considering a bill to ban hemp-derived products containing THC, including those sold by Edibles.com.
The company, which operates a franchise network, has started delivering THC products across the state, including drinks and edibles. While the service is currently legal under Texas law, the proposed ban could change the landscape for THC products in the state.
“We believe that the hemp industry is evolving rapidly, but consumers still face challenges with perception, education, and accessibility,” said Somia Farid Silber, CEO of Edible Brands. “Our goal is to provide a convenient and responsible way for consumers to access THC products.”
The proposed ban on hemp-derived THC products has sparked a legal battle in Austin, with the Texas Senate passing the bill and sending it to the House for consideration. Law enforcement officials have expressed concerns about the potential for abuse of THC products, citing undercover investigations that have found products with high THC concentrations.
Local businesses, such as Endo Dispensary and Wellness in Rowlett, are also impacted by the proposed ban. Owner Mike Brown fears that if the ban passes, customers will be forced to turn to the black market for THC products, which could lead to increased risk of harm.
Brown is urging lawmakers to take a more moderate approach, calling for regulation and oversight of the industry rather than a full ban. “Let’s document who we are and let’s have some regulation, but let’s not make rash decisions,” he said.
The Texas House is expected to take up its own hemp legislation, which would impose more oversight rather than a full ban. For now, Edibles.com and other businesses remain legal under current law, creating a window for the new service to operate in Texas.
