Delaware Legalizes Recreational Marijuana: What You Need to Know

Delawareans Can Now Legally Buy Weed: Here’s What You Need to Know

As of August 1, Delaware has become the latest state to legalize recreational marijuana. This milestone comes after the state’s legalization in 2023, and 12 dispensaries across the state are now open for business. However, with this new freedom comes a set of regulations that consumers must follow.

Firstly, it’s essential to note that Delaware has some of the strictest regulations in the country regarding the handling and cleanliness of the plant before it’s dried, packaged, and used. For consumers, there are rules governing personal use and buying marijuana.

According to Delaware law, individuals are allowed to possess a “personal use quantity” of marijuana, which is defined as 1 ounce or less of leaf marijuana, up to 12 grams of concentrated cannabis, or cannabis products containing 750 milligrams or less of delta-9 THC.

When it comes to using marijuana, it’s important to note that it’s illegal to smoke in public areas, such as parks, sidewalks, and more. Additionally, using marijuana in a vehicle is prohibited, and driving under the influence of marijuana is just as illegal as drunken driving. State law also prohibits growing your own plants.

So, where can you buy legal marijuana in Delaware? There are 12 dispensaries across the state, including Columbia Care Wilmington, Thrive Wilmington, Field Supply Cannabis & Provisions, Fresh Cannabis, The Farm, Columbia Care Smyrna, Best Buds Dover, The Farm Felton, The Farm Frankford, Best Buds Georgetown, Thrive Lewes, and Columbia Care Rehoboth Beach.

For medical marijuana patients, don’t worry – every facility in the state selling recreational marijuana is a converted medical marijuana dispensary, and state law requires them to continue operating as medical providers. In fact, medical customers are given priority service.

It’s worth noting that some medical marijuana dispensaries, such as The Fresh Delaware locations in Milford and Seaford, are remaining medical-only for now due to municipal bans on marijuana retail.

With the legalization of recreational marijuana in Delaware, it’s essential to be aware of the regulations and guidelines in place to ensure a safe and responsible use of the substance.
