Delaware’s Recreational Marijuana Sales Kick Off with a Bang
On August 1, 2025, Delaware officially joined the ranks of states allowing recreational marijuana sales. The highly anticipated event drew long lines of eager customers to dispensaries across the state, with many braving the early morning hours to be among the first to make a legal purchase.
In Lewes, Thrive Dispensary was bustling with activity as customers browsed through a wide range of products, from flowers to edibles. Linda Jones, a budtender at the dispensary, helped clients navigate the selection, offering expert advice and recommendations. Tom Torello and his wife Abbey were among the first customers of the day, excited to make their first legal recreational purchase.
Meanwhile, in Felton, The Farm Compassion Center was also busy, with customers lining up around the block. Bill Rohrer, the center’s owner, was on hand to greet customers and celebrate the historic day. Jim Van Patton, the general manager, showed off the center’s extensive product offerings, including a variety of flowers, concentrates, and edibles.
The Delaware Office of the Marijuana Commissioner was also on hand to mark the occasion. Joshua Sanderlin, the commissioner, made the first legal recreational purchase at Thrive Dispensary, marking a significant milestone in the state’s cannabis industry.
