Kentucky’s Medical Cannabis Program Expands with New Dispensary and Cultivators

The state of Kentucky has made significant strides in its medical cannabis program, with 19 licensed businesses now operational across the commonwealth. The latest addition is Kentucky Alternative Care, which opened its doors in Louisville as the first medical cannabis dispensary in the city.

The program has seen a surge in growth, with the number of approved cultivators increasing to eight. New cultivators have been added in Jessamine, Lincoln, and Hopkins counties, allowing for a greater in-state production capacity to meet the rising demand from patients.

In total, Kentucky has approved eight cultivators, two safety compliance facilities, one processor, and eight dispensaries. This number is expected to grow in the coming weeks as three additional licensees are scheduled for inspection.

The demand for medical cannabis is evident, with over 19,726 Kentuckians now approved for medical cannabis cards. This represents an increase of over 2,000 approved applications since last month, as more residents learn about the program and connect with certified providers. Additionally, 519 practitioners are registered to issue medical cannabis certifications to eligible patients across the state.
