Indiana Governor Mike Braun is considering the possibility of legalizing medicinal marijuana in the state, citing the growing support for the issue. According to a recent survey by Ball State University, over 62% of Hoosiers support the legalization of marijuana for both recreational and medical use.
Republican State Representative Jim Lucas has been a long-time advocate for legalizing cannabis in Indiana, but his proposals have yet to gain traction. However, Lucas believes that the state could potentially generate significant revenue from legalizing marijuana, estimating that Indiana could bring in $150-200 million from recreational use alone.
Braun has previously stated that any discussion about legalizing marijuana in Indiana would involve law enforcement, but it appears that he is now open to exploring the issue further. With neighboring states such as Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan already allowing marijuana use for both recreational and medical purposes, Indiana may be forced to reconsider its stance on the issue.
As the debate surrounding marijuana legalization continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether Indiana will join the growing list of states that have legalized the drug. However, with the majority of Hoosiers supporting the issue, it is likely that the topic will continue to be a point of discussion in the state legislature in the coming months.
