Minnesota’s recreational cannabis market has made significant progress since its legalization three years ago. According to the Office of Cannabis Management, sales have exceeded $50 million in the past six months, with a total of $210 million in sales for both adult-use marijuana and hemp-derived THC products in 2025. This growth has resulted in an additional $27 million in state tax revenue.
The Office of Cannabis Management, led by Executive Director Eric Taubel, has issued around 180 licenses, with most being granted to microbusinesses. Taubel expects monthly sales to double in the coming months and years, saying that the unique market will be oriented towards craft products and provide opportunities for small businesses to compete. However, he notes that building this market takes time.
Despite the challenges, Taubel is optimistic about the future of the industry. He believes that cannabis consumers will have more options and products available, with the market only expected to improve. As the legal market continues to ramp up, it’s likely that sales will continue to grow, providing a significant boost to the state’s economy.
