Medical Cannabis Initiative Seeks Idaho Ballot Spot
The Natural Medicine Alliance of Idaho has submitted over 150,000 signatures in an effort to qualify the Idaho Medical Cannabis Act for the November 2026 ballot. The initiative aims to legalize medical cannabis in the state, which currently has no legal program.
To qualify for the ballot, the initiative must meet Idaho’s requirements, including collecting signatures from at least 6% of registered voters in at least 18 of the state’s 35 legislative districts. The alliance has successfully gathered signatures from all 44 counties, exceeding the required threshold.
County clerks have until June 30 to verify the signatures, and if certified, the initiative will be placed on the November ballot for Idaho voters to decide. If approved, medical cannabis would be legalized for medical use in the state.
Despite the high signature count, the initiative faces opposition from the Idaho State Legislature. Earlier this year, lawmakers passed a resolution urging residents to reject the initiative, citing concerns about increased cartel activity, health risks, and expanded access to marijuana beyond medical use.
Idaho is one of the few states without a legal medical cannabis program, and the outcome of the initiative will ultimately be decided by Idaho voters on November 3, 2026.
