Humboldt County Board of Supervisors to Consider Revoking 16 Cannabis Permits for Unpaid Taxes
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday to discuss the revocation of 16 cannabis permits due to outstanding Measure S taxes. The permits, which have been suspended since February, have failed to pay the required fees, ranging from $7,808.82 to $751.29.
According to a staff report from the county’s Planning and Building Department, the permits have been exercised in violation of the conditions and requirements of the permit and County Code. Specifically, the permit holders have failed to pay all applicable application and annual inspection fees, as mandated by Section 55.4.11 (k) of the Commercial Medical Marijuana Land Use Ordinance.
The total amount owed to the Planning and Building Department by the 16 permit holders is $41,358.10. In February 2026, the supervisors instructed the planning department to schedule revocation hearings for cannabis growing operations that had not paid Measure S taxes and outstanding fees by December 31, 2025.
Letters were sent to the permit holders on February 27, 2026, informing them that their permits had been suspended due to unpaid fees and that revocation by the Board of Supervisors was imminent. The letters stated that if the fees were paid by March 31, 2026, the permits would be removed from the agenda for consideration of revocation. However, none of the permit holders resolved their outstanding fees by the deadline, and as of the report’s preparation, the fees remain unpaid.
