Montana to Host High Times Cannabis Cup for the First Time
For the first time, the High Times Cannabis Cup will be held in Montana, a state that has made significant strides in the cannabis industry. The event, which was first held in Amsterdam in 1988, is a celebration of cannabis culture and will take place on September 5th at the Pub Station in Billings.
Tara Holloway, a long-time advocate for patients and local producers, is credited with bringing the event to Montana. As the president of the Montana Cannabis Industry Association, Holloway has been instrumental in shaping the state’s cannabis laws and regulations.
Holloway’s own experience with medical cannabis began in 2008, when she was prescribed narcotics after suffering a spinal hemorrhage while pregnant. However, she was hesitant to take the medication, fearing it would lead to her child being born addicted to narcotics. Instead, she turned to medical cannabis, which she credits with helping her manage her pain and maintain her quality of life.
Holloway’s advocacy work has been instrumental in shaping Montana’s cannabis laws, including the requirement that all marijuana products be made and produced in-state, and the implementation of a seed-to-sale tracking program. She has also worked to ensure that medical marijuana card holders have access to safe and potent products, including delivery services and higher-potency products.
The High Times Cannabis Cup will feature over 80 marijuana producers from Montana, competing in 11 categories, including flowers, concentrates, pre-rolls, and edibles. Two Whitefish dispensaries, Montana Kush and Haskill Farm’s Cannabis Counter, will also be competing in the Cup.
The event will include a live awards ceremony, as well as live music, a climbing wall, glass blowing, and vendors. The people’s choice format allows consumers to vote online for their favorite products, based on qualities such as aesthetics, aroma, taste, and effects.
Holloway is thrilled to have the High Times Cannabis Cup coming to Montana, saying it will be a “huge thing” for the state’s cannabis community. The event is expected to draw cannabis enthusiasts from across the region, and will provide a platform for Montana’s cannabis producers to showcase their products and compete with the best in the industry.
