Kentucky Medical Cannabis Dispensaries Announced for Louisville and Lexington Areas
As of January 1, 2025, patients with qualifying medical conditions can apply for a medical cannabis card in Kentucky. The Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) has recently distributed the remaining 12 medical cannabis dispensary licenses for the Bluegrass and Kentuckiana regions, which include the state’s two largest cities, Louisville and Lexington.
A total of 12 businesses have been selected to operate in the two regions, with four applicants chosen for each region. The selected businesses include Canntucky Ventures LLC, Garry Kort, Robert Hoogendyk, and Thriveblue LLC for the Bluegrass region, and DNP-DH KY, LLC, KY PRISTINE VISTAS LLC, DJS KY LLC, and Pinnacle Path LLC for the Kentuckiana region.
Fayette and Jefferson counties, which are home to Louisville and Lexington, were allocated an additional dispensary license due to their large population sizes. The selected businesses for these counties include DHK KY LLC, ZenLeaf, Inc., Chung Woo Kim, LLC, and Upward Innovations.
The OMC received over 4,000 business applications for the 48 dispensary licenses available in Kentucky, with over 1,200 applications coming from the Bluegrass and Kentuckiana regions. The selected businesses have 15 days to pay their initial $30,000 licensing fee, after which they can begin operating.
The Kentucky medical cannabis program aims to provide patients with access to medical cannabis products, with an emphasis on small businesses and product growth to meet patient demand. Patients can apply for a medical cannabis card starting January 1, 2025, by receiving a written certification from an authorized doctor or nurse practitioner.
