Michigan Recalls Over 26,000 Marijuana Vape Cartridges Due to Potentially Harmful Ingredient

The Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) has issued a recall of over 26,000 marijuana vape cartridges due to the presence of medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil, a potentially unsafe diluting agent. The affected products include Motor City Cannacarts-branded cartridges Georgia Pie and Confetti Cake, as well as RIPZ-branded cartridges Peach Cobbler, Wedding Cake, Ice Cream Man, and Tropic Thunder.

The recall affects vape cartridges purchased after November 1, 2024, from several dispensaries in metro Detroit, including Jars Cannabis and House of Dank stores. Consumers who have purchased these products are advised to return them to the sales location where they were purchased or dispose of them safely.

The CRA banned the use of MCT oil in vape pens in October 2024, following concerns over its safety. MCT oil is a synthetically converted cannabis oil that has been linked to adverse reactions, including lung injuries and illnesses. The recall is a voluntary action taken by the manufacturer, Sky Cannabis, to ensure that all licensed cannabis products meet strict production, quality, and safety standards.

Consumers who have experienced adverse reactions after using these products are urged to report their symptoms and product use to their healthcare providers. The CRA has also provided an Adverse Reaction Reporting Form on its website for consumers to report any adverse reactions.

The recall is a precautionary measure to protect public health and safety. Consumers are encouraged to verify the authenticity of their vape cartridges and to check with their dispensary of purchase for any recalled products.
