Ohio Senator Optimistic About Resolving Recreational Marijuana and Hemp Regulation Bills Before Thanksgiving

Ohio Senator Steve Huffman is Optimistic About Resolving Recreational Marijuana and Hemp Regulation Bills

Columbus, OH – Senator Steve Huffman, the chairman of the Senate Health Committee and sponsor of Senate Bill 56, is hopeful that lawmakers will reach an agreement on the bill before Thanksgiving. The legislation aims to regulate recreational marijuana and intoxicating hemp products, which have been a growing concern due to products being packaged to resemble common candies sold to children.

Although there may be some sticking points, Huffman expects the conference committee to resolve the differences between the Senate and House versions of the bill. He anticipates being part of the committee, which is expected to be appointed soon.

Huffman’s bill, which passed the Senate earlier this year, aimed to clarify the state’s adult-use recreational marijuana laws. However, after Governor Mike DeWine expressed concerns about intoxicating hemp products, the Ohio House quickly passed its own version of the bill, which included amendments to regulate these products.

Huffman is optimistic that lawmakers can come to an agreement on the bill in the coming weeks, stating, “I hope that we can get together and get some resolution in the next couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. That would be my plan, but there are some differences.”
